Workers on strike shut down Golden Gate Ferry in San Francisco
The Golden Gate Ferry was shut down Saturday morning due to a ferry workers strike, which could last through all of Memorial Day Weekend.
After giving little to no notice of their intentions in the days leading up to the weekend, dozens of ferry workers began striking outside of the Golden Gate Ferry terminal in Sausalito Saturday morning, thereby shutting down service for that day.
The commuter-run blog SFferryriders.com reported the day before that there were rumors of the possible strike. Citing “a reliable source,” the site stated that the reason for the strike was not only due to a lack of a new union contract, but because workers would not be paid for working through the holiday weekend while management would be compensated.
