Occupy Portland activist enters 53rd day of hunger strikeJuly 23, 2012 Activist Cameron Whitten has been on a hunger strike outside of Portland City Hall for 53 days to bring attention to the city’s growing housing problem. Whitten’s hunger strike has been a part of Occupy Portland’s 24/7 vigil to call for immediate action to tackle Portland’s homelessness crisis. Whitten has been on an all liquid diet & sleeping outside of City Hall since June 2. He was a mayoral candidate to bring light to the Portland’s increasing homeless population while many houses stay vacant.  The activist has set forth a platform based on a one year moratorium on foreclosures throughout the city & to work on peaceful solutions to the issue. He says he plans to continue the hunger strike for as long as necessary. Source
