Truth: BREAKING: One person killed in officer-involved shooting in Dallas
July 24, 2012
The incident was reported near Mural Ln. and Barber Ave. around 5 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
One person was confirmed dead in a field adjacent to a horse barn near the scene on Barber Ave.
After the shooting, a crowd formed around crime scene tape that…
How is this brutality? I’m not forming an opinion either way, but the facts haven’t fully surfaced, and rallying around a bogus story is almost always counter-productive.
I live in the area, grew up 10-15 minutes away from where this happened, my little sister & her boyfriend live in the neighborhood, I know people who are there right now and who have been there all day and am confident that the story isn’t “bogus”. The Dallas Police Department Chief came out and admitted that the 31 year old man was unarmed. The neighborhood is typically apolitical, because most of the energy of the people who live in that neighborhood is expended on survival. More than 300 people in this typically apolitical neighborhood came out and overwhelmed the police, so much so that they had to call for backup from surrounding areas. This was our first post on the incident but we’ve posted twice about it since. Feel free to look at our site or do a google search to confirm that this is indeed not “bogus”.
Universally, I think shooting unarmed people in the back is brutal. And I didn’t have to hesitate to think “is this story bogus?” or “is this really brutal?” because incidents like this happen on a weekly basis in oppressed communities around the U.S., and are particularly common in black neighborhoods. Nobody has to make up these incidents, if one wanted to talk about police brutality, all one would have to do is a google search and pick the brutal killing of the day or week. In fact, we do that here on this blog pretty often. These incidents are VERY REAL for the people who live in these communities.
