motherjones: Many states use solitary confinement. Is your state one of them?  Solitary confinement is cruel & unusual punishment. Ask anyone who has ever been confined in solitary conditions for an extended period of time. It is scary how fast the mind can and will unravel when left alone, confined to a small space, with no outside outlet for stimulation. It is unnatural for humans to find themselves in small, cold, grey spaces with nothing to look at and nobody to talk to.
