African American woman set on fire by KKK in Louisiana

A 20-year-old African American woman told police she was set on fire by three men who wrote the initials KKK and a racial slur on her car in northeastern Louisiana.

Louisiana State Police spokeswoman Lt. Julie Lewis says Sharmeka Moffitt was found with burns on 60 per cent of her body when police responded to her 911 call on Sunday night.

Moffitt was taken to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, where she remained in critical condition on Monday afternoon.

Moffitt told police the men doused her in a flammable liquid and set her on fire while she walked through the Civitan Park around 8pm.

She extinguished the fire using water from a spigot before a police officer arrived.

Lewis said the FBI is investigating the attack as a possible hate crime, but that no arrests had been made as of late Monday.

Authorities say Moffitt was attacked and burned by three men wearing white hoodies while she was on the walking trail at the park.

Though the attackers apparently wrote the letters ‘KKK’ on Moffitt’s vehicle, police said she was unable to determine whether the men were black or white.

Local law enforcement said they were shocked at the attack at the otherwise serene park.

Winnsboro Police Chief Lester Thomas said he was ‘devastated’ by the incident.

Franklin Parish Sheriff Kevin Cobb called it ‘a horrific event.’

‘We will follow the facts and seek justice,’ he said.

The victim’s family set up a Facebook page, Prayers for Sharmeka Moffitt and soliciting prayers for the 20-year-old.

What terrible news. I do hope that she recovers alright.

Can I just, though, please point out that just because a small percentage of people are brainwashed to think in a hateful way, it doesn’t mean that everyone in society acts this way.

And maybe, just maybe, the society isn’t as racially accepting as we want it to be. But there’s been a difference made over so many years. This wasn’t achieved by acting like the victims. Because that’s not how it works. How it works is proving that you can be considered an equal. That you’re just as capable as everyone else in the society.

Yes, there’s still A LOT of racial hate. But please, don’t assume that everyone is racially non-accepting based on the act of what brainwashed individuals do.

Now is NOT the fucking time to bring out the “we’re not all like that” argument. If you wanna make that bullshit ass derailing point, make your own damn post about. DO NOT come to an article about a woman who was SET ON FIRE to cry about how all of y’all aren’t like that.

If you wanna know why damn near everything your ass just said was bullshit, go here and educate your damn self. Until then, sit yo ass down and shut up.

Here’s an article that mentions the police’s suspicion that her injuries are self-inflicted along with some other important info.

According to the Franklin Sun, Winnsboro Police Chief Lester Thomas, evidenced gathered at the scene of the incident shows 20-year-old Sharmeka Moffitt’s initial claims that she was attacked and set on fire turned out to be false claims made up by Moffitt.

Otis Chisley, the president of the local branch of the NAACP, told the AP that regardless of the investigation’s outcome racism and KKK activity remain a fact of life in the state.
