Here are some stories you may not otherwise read about today:

• The international Service Employee Union is expected to make a splash in Los Angeles on Wednesday, as airlines are already warning passengers to expect delays due to a large-scale labor march expected to last from 11AM to 2PM. The union put out a statement saying that an airport contractor is violating the city’s living wage ordinance and has eliminated affordable healthcare for more than 400 workers.

• Ethnic Somalis are being targeted in Kenya after a bomb attack, suspected of being committed by an ethnically Somali Kenyan, killed 9 people. Somalis who fled to Kenya to avoid the violence and dangerous conditions of Somalia are being blamed, with angry mobs breaking into their homes, burning their possessions and violently attacking them. 

• Religious nationalists espousing homophobia in France attacked topless protest activists of Femen for their gay-positive messaging at a rally. 

• Communism is on the rise in Russia as Russian leftist leaders have voted to begin the work to dismiss the current government  and begin what they are calling a plan ‘national salvation’. The plan includes the nationalization of all sectors of the economy and the return of companies owned by foreign investors.

• While targeting Hamas, the Israeli Defense Force ‘mistakenly’ bombed the home of one Palestinian family, killing eleven civilians, four of whom were children and toddlers. This, as a new wave of hatred toward Gaza is sweeping across Israel. The interior minster in Israel says for instance, that he sees no end in sight to “Operation Pillar of Defense”, stating publicly that “the goal of the operation is to send Gaza back to the Middle Ages, only then will Israel be calm for the next 40 years.”

• In related news, the hacktivist group Anonymous has declared cyberwar on Israel, leaking the personal information of more than 5,000 Israeli officials. Earlier, the group hacked over 700 hundred Israeli websites, including the Bank of Jerusalem, the Israeli Defence Ministry, the IDF blog, the President’s official website and many others.
